The Oscar Romero Award for Catholic Schools and Colleges was founded in 2015 to support Catholic education institutions to embed Catholic Social Teaching principles in their everyday life.
The aim of the Award is two-fold: to recognise and celebrate all that a school does as a Christian community that enables individuals in that community and beyond to live life to the full, and to challenge a school community to continue finding ways of being “good news” to all in their community and beyond.
The Award has three strands, with each strand focusing on a key area of Catholic school life.
The Strategic strand asks whether CST guides the school’s vision and has a direct impact on the culture of the school. CST guidance inspires and supports the school community to reflect upon their role within the wider community.
The Curriculum strand asks whether students/pupils actively learn about CST in their lessons across the curriculum so that they can gain a holistic understanding of the mission of the Church to enable all people to live life to the full.
The Practical strand asks how the whole school community, in faith and action, celebrates its dedication to living in solidarity with the poor – how the school puts into practice the principles of CST.
Our aim is to have as many Catholic schools and colleges in all the 4 home nations taking part in the Award.
