A Call to Courageous Acts
This year the theme for Refugee Week 2026 is Courage. We’re inviting Catholics in schools, parishes and communities to reflect both on the courage that it takes to move to find safety as a refugee, and on the courage it takes to stand up for your beliefs and to ‘Love the Stranger’.
Join the Campaign to Love the Stranger: Defend Asylum
Together with JRS UK and the SVP we have launched a Christian campaign to defend asylum, rooted in gospel values and catholic social teaching. We’re calling on the government to:
- Restore the right to asylum
- Put dignity and protection at the heart of the asylum system
- End immigration detention
You can get involved in the campaign this refugee week by:
- Downloading or ordering postcards to get signed and sent to the Prime Minister
- Putting up a poster in your church in solidarity with people seeking asylum
- Speaking with others in your parish and community about why this issue is important to you
Find everything you need to take action on the campaign website
Join the Prayer Vigil for those who have died seeking a better life
Join Bishop Paul McAleenan along with students and catholic charities on Monday 15 June at 12.30pm for a prayer vigil outside the Home Office in London, remembering all who have suffered or died as a result of immigration policies as they attempted to reach the UK.
Collective Worship Resource for Young People
This collective worship plan introduces secondary students to Refugee Week 2026 and the theme of courageous acts through prayer, scripture, video, and questions for reflection. It is designed for use in key stages 3-5. It offers the flexibility to delve deeper with students if you have time through reflection questions and additional resources at the end of this text.
